Dear colleagues,mammalogists, friends:
On behalf of the Organizing Committee it is a great pleasure to invite you attend the Xth International Congress of Mammalogy (IMC-10) to be held in Mendoza, Argentina,9-14 August, 2009.
The Congress is hosted by the Center for Science & Technology (CONICET), the Institute for Aridlands Research, the Biodiversity Research Group ((IADIZA, GiB), and the Sociedad Argentina para el Estudio de los Mamíferos (SAREM).
This is the first time that the International Congress of Mammalogy will take place in South America. It is our deep and sincere desire to bring together the broadest diversity of studies and investigators. professionals and students in the field of mammalian biology. We wish to provide a forum for an stimulating exchange of ideas and promotion of integrative and collaborative research among the members of our scientific community. Morever, the IMC-10 constitute an extraordinary opportunity to promote and consolidate the growing number of South American mammal societies.
The Province of Mendoza, known as "the land of sun and good wine /la tierra del sol y del buen vino, is located in the pre Andean foothills, surrounded by an heterogeneous matrix of arid and semiarid landscapes, from the Cordillera de los Andes mountain ranges to the lowland desert. There are diverse and marvelous local activities and trips to the Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America with 6959 m (barely three hours away from town) or the Wine Routes(where one can visit various wineries' cellars and taste their products). Mendoza it is also a good starting point for interesting tours.For example, to the eastern coast of Patagonia (in August, one can observe whale migrations). Or, in the south, the Valdivian Temperate /Nothofagus/Forest. Or, the marvelous Iguazú Falls within the the southernmost extension of the Mata Atlantica forest. Or the always impressive Argentine Northwest, wherein is apparent the pre-Columbian culture of South America...And much more landscape and biodiversity to see in the contiguous countries of Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil !
